Had a great experience at my local REI.

My old Yak towers were clapped out and I needed them this week for a job to haul sole long packages down to Corpus.

I stopped in and spoke with Chris ‘Red’ over by the bikes who had no issue stopping what he was doing to help me out. He even had to put a bit of effort forth to get to parts stored high up on some racking by pulling a ladder and climbing but he got me what I needed and was very helpful in answering all my questions and recommending several solutions to issues I mentioned (like a sill step to help me climb to access the roof on my SUV) and other things. As he worked in the bike section, he was really knowledgeable about Mountainbiking which happens to be a passion of mine, different setups and area trails, and we got to nerd out about bikes for a few minutes while he helped me outside with my new rack towers and crossbars.

If you have questions about bikes, roof racks…he’s your guy.

I also get pretty stoked that my local REI usually has things I need last minute that I can’t wait to get in from an online order as well as a bunch of other cool stuff I don’t necessarily need but find neat, interesting and helpful. It’s a fun, neat store full of lovely, helpful people.

Great selection of outdoor gear with a very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I needed to make a complicated exchange and the staff were able to take the time necessary in order to make the exchange correct. Really appreciate their willingness to help and will for sure go back when I need more gear!

The selection of outdoor items is excellent, but the customer service leaves much to be desired. I went in to buy hiking shoes but was disappointed to find limited sizes. Even more frustrating was trying to get assistance; I had to search for employees, and they seemed uninterested in helping.

Why wouldn't you love REI if you love the outdoors?! Everything from backpacking, to kayaking, cycling, and running gets a large share of the floor space. There's a permanent sale section which is a newer addition after COVID. There are also regularly classes on various outdoor topics. Be sure to sign up for membership to share in the discounts! This is your best option if you want a specific selection of top quality packs, bags, and camping. You'll find a bigger selection of mid range options elsewhere.

I came to get hiking shoes for my daughter and I and Elliot helped us find the perfect pairs. He was super patient even though we tried on loads of shoes and wanted to make sure we had a great fit. Great experience.

The selection of clothing for men is pretty abysmal. Arrangement is also confusing with men's and women's apparal sections mixed. Shoe options and sizes are also pretty bare bones m Somewhat small compared to other stores in the country. Unfortunate, since the staff are nice. Classes are also simple, most of the outdoor stuff is in Austin. Just do your shopping online and use this place for returns till the company cares to make it better.
